BOURNE, MA: Ryan Eades (LSU) pitched 6 innings of shutout, 4-hit baseball and helped lead the Bourne Braves to a 6-0 win over the Wareham Gatemen at the annual July 4th game between the two rivals at Doran Park in Bourne, Massachusetts in front of a crowd of 1,345.
The Bourne Braves provided plenty of 4th of July Fireworks, pounding out 12 hits en route to a 6-0 win over the Gatemen. One day after Wareham topped Bourne 3-2, the Braves jumped out to an early lead with 4 runs in the second inning off Gatemen starter Luke Farrell (Northwestern). Kyle Farmer (Georgia) led off with a walk, two batters later Patrick Cantwell (Stony Brook) singled, and Garret Cannizarro (Tulane) followed with a walk to load the bases. After a meeting on the mound, Farrell then walked Johnny Bladel (James Madison) to force in the game’s first run. Travis Jankowski (Stony Brook) followed with a sacrifice fly to score Cantwell to make it 2-0. Tommy Coyle (UNC) and Jason Coats (TCU) then added back to back RBI singles to stretch the lead the Braves lead to 4.
Bourne tacked on a run in the fourth thanks again to Jankowski. He blasted a triple to deep center and late scored on an error. The Braves then added one more insurance run in the 6th, when Cantwell knocked home Farmer with a sharp double.
Meanwhile the Gatemen were held to just 5 hits by 3 different Bourne pitchers. The starter Ryan Eades (LSU) scattered 4 hits across 6 innings, Slade Smith (Auburn) and John Farrell (William and Mary) combined to toss 3 innings of relief to close things out.
The Gatemen drop to 10 and 10 on the season and are in a three-way tie for 2nd place in the CCBL Western Division. They will look to bounce back against one of those teams tomorrow night against Falmouth at Spillane Field at 7 PM. Brent Suter (Harvard) is expected to take the hill for the Gatemen.
