WAREHAM, MA: Wareham Gatemen relief pitcher Nicholas Rumbelow (LSU) was been named the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Coca Cola Pither of the Week. The hard throwing, right-handed pitcher was tremendous in a pair of appearances out of the Gatemen bullpen.
Against Cotuit on June 30th, Rumbelow pitched 1.2 innings; getting strikeouts in 4 of the 5 outs he worked. He followed that up on July 1st with a scoreless outing against Cotuit. On the 4th, Nick faced the Bourne Braves and gave up a couple of runs but picked up another 4 strikeouts over 2 innings.
One of three LSU Tigers on this year’s Gatemen squad, Nicholas has been part a keep part of an impressive and deep Wareham bullpen. Despite making all of his appearances out if the bullpen, he is tied for fourth in the Cape League with 23 overall strikeouts. He has pitched a total of 12.1 innings in his 7 appearances, has allowed 8 hits and just 4 walks and has a 2.13 era.
Rumbelow is the third Wareham Gatemen player in the last 2 seasons to be named pitcher of the week following 2011 players Luke Farrell (Northwestern) and Josh Turley (Baylor).
