BOURNE, MA. Bourne Braves pitcher Seth Maness (East Carolina) was nearly flawless as the Bourne Braves defated the Wareham Gatemen for the 5th straight time this season 8-0 at Doran Park. Maness was throwing a perfect game against the Gatemen up until George Springer (UCONN) singled in the eighth inning. That was the ONLY blemish on an otherwise perfect game for the right-handed pitcher as he retired the next 6 batters to preserve the complete game, 1 hit, shutout victory.
The Braves also got plenty of offensive support with homers by Adam Rice (Coastal Carolina) and Maness college teammate Kyle Roller (East Carolina) who hit his league leading 6th homer of the season. Pierre Lepage (UCONN) also contributed 2 rbi as the Bourne offense got to starting Gatemen pitcher Brandon Workman (Texas). Workman lasted only 4 innings, giving up 6 runs on 7 hits. Robert Segedin (Tulane) had 3 hits and an rbi for the Braves.
Keith Bilodeau (Maine) pitched in his home town for the Gatemen in 1.2 innings in relief. Bilodeau was a star at Bourne High School; right up the road from Doran Park.
The Gatemen have now fallen to the Braves in 5 consecutive games and have yet to defeat them during the ’09 season. Wareham will have one last chance on the last day of the season as Bourne will visit Spillane Field on August 5th for the regular season finale. Considering the current standings, this game could very well have playoff implications.
The Gatemen have an off-day tomorrow before returning to action on Tuesday night vs. Eastern Division leading YD. Jack Armstrong is scheduled to make the start. Tune into the game Gatemen pregame show at 6:45 at www.gatemen.org. Also, don’t forget to follow the Gatemen on Twitter.
With the loss, Wareham falls to 17-14-5 on the season but remain in a playoff spot; tied at the top of the standing with Bourne.
