Gatemen RHP Luke Farrell (Northwestern) has been named the first Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week in the Cape Cod Baseball League or 2011. The ace of the Wildcat’s pitching staff during the college season, he has also served in that role in the early part of the season for the Gatemen.
Farrell has made two starts this season for Wareham; pitching 7 inning complete games that were each part of Wareham double-headers – helping to preserve his team’s bullpen. Against Brewster on June 12, Luke pitched 7 innings, struck out 5, allowed one unearned run and walked only 2 in picking up the win in a 2-1 pitcher’s dual at Spillane Field.
Farrell was just as impressive in the first game of a double-header against the YD Red Sox this past Sunday. Again going the distance, he allowed only 3 hits, 2 earned runs and struck out 5 in the 7-3 victory over the Red Sox. On the season, he is leading the CCBL with a 2-0 record and an impressive 1.29 earned run average.
Luke is the son of Toronto Blue Jays Manager John Farrell. This season at Northwestern, he was 6-2, had a 3.58 era and struck out 61 batters.
Luke shared the spotlight with Cotuit OF Victor Roache who was named the Week 1 Coca Cola CCBL PLayer of the Week. The Gatemen had two pitchers named Pitcher of the Week in 2010; Max Perlman (Harvard) and current Wareham RHP Joseph Flynn (Franklin Pierce)
