COTUIT, MA. The Cotuit Kettleers hit 4 homeruns that hightlighted a tremendous offensive performance as they defeated the Wareham Gatemen 8-2 at Lowell Park. Gatemen starting pitcher Eric Pfisterer (Duke) and Kettleer starting pitcher Seth Blair (Arizona State) each started the game strong – Blair pitching 3 scoreless innings and Pfisterer pitching a clean first and second inning. However, the Cotuit offense came alive in the 3rd inning.
Kevin Patterson (Auburn) hit a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the 3rd inning and that was followed a couple of batters later by a Zach Maggerd (Florida Southern) rbi single that gave Cotuit a 2-0 lead over Wareham. The Gatemen answered immediately in the 4th when Derek Dietrich (Georgia Tech) led off the inning with a double and scored on a Ryan LaMarre (Michigan) rbi single. LaMarre would later score on a throwing error by the Cotuit shortstop and Wareham tied the game 2-2 in the 4th inning.
After a scoreless 5th inning, Cotuit continued it’s homerun trend when Zach Cone (Georgia) hit a 2-run homer that resulted in a 4-2 lead for the Kettleers. After a walk and a strikeout, Pfisterer gave up his 3rd homer of the game – this time a run shot to Cameron Rupp (Texas). Pfisterer turned over a 6-2 deficit to Bruce Kern (St. John’s). The first batter Kern faced was Rupp college teammate Kevin Keyes (Texas) who greeted Kern with another Cotuit homerun and provided the Kettleer’s with a 7-2 cushion.
Cotuit added another run in the 6th before the game was called due to darkness at the end of 7 innings. Pfisterer took the loss and Blair was the benefactor of the Cotuit offensive explosion; picking up the win. The Kettleer win tightens an already close Western Division race; tying them with the Gatemen for 2nd place; only 1 point behind division leading Bourne.
Wareham will play next on Saturday when they play a double-header against the Orleans Firebirds beginning with game 1 at 4:30pm. Cole Green (Texas) and Brandon Workman (Texas) are the scheduled Wareham starting pitchers.
