Game day Operations – Wareham (Wareham, MA)

This position is open to students looking to gain experience and insight in the business of sports. Through this internship, students will experience all facets of Cape Cod League Baseball and the Wareham Gatemen throughout the summer, including marketing, promotions, hospitality, game day activation and so much more. Qualified candidates must be creative minded, possess solid communications skills and be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously. You must work successfully in a team environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

In-game promotions crew, merchandise set-up and selling assistance, hanging sponsored banners, set up and maintain greeting table, hanging our Nations’ flag, setting up and maintaining pitching machine for adult and youth entertainment throughout the game, greeting sponsors and providing them with the necessities of event set ups, greeting National Anthem performers, first pitch, playball and guest sponsors, opening bathroom along with stocking before and after games, displaying game day parking signs and game day schedule signs throughout the community, providing assistance and relief for our mascot, Gary Gatemen. WCTV (Wareham Community Television) will be broadcasting games on local news channels for the town of Wareham and surrounding communities. Interns will be assigned to camera duty according to Warren Randolph and will report to him on nightly home games. All Interns will assist in nightly promotions throughout ballpark Themed Tables – assist in community appearances helping to promote upcoming home stands, promotions and programs. Scheduling is based on availability.

Greeting Tables: As Interns of the Wareham Gatemen, you are the first point of contact for fans entering the field. Encourage overall fun atmosphere for fans entering the game! Encourage fan participation! Promote Sponsor Event Nights! Interns will: Set up greeting tables according to organization members in designated areas; Handout “giveaways”; Handout Stat Sheets and game-day programs; Collect donations.

Merchandise and Concessions: The Merchandise Concessions will sell Wareham Gatemen and Cape Cod Baseball League merchandise throughout the pre-game and during the game. This position will also “float” as needed to other positions, included but not limited to Game Day Operations. Interns will: Assist in the Team Store according to the Merchandise Committee; Assist will table set up and prep; Encourage fans to view the merchandise and assist with sales; Help maintain quality of clothing and assure that all is folded neatly for viewing; Table break-down according to the Merchandise Committee

There is a nightly 50/50 raffle promotion with prizes from sponsors and other locations. Report to the Raffle Coordinator to determine nightly sales goals and prizes. Interns are responsible for selling tickets throughout the stadium during the game with an assigned baseball player. Duties will include- standing in the middle of stairs on the main concourse and solicit fans to purchase raffle tickets. Explain the raffle, pricing and prizes to fans. Walk throughout the stands during the game to promote raffle and encourage fans to participate. Promote the sponsors of the raffle- you will find most sponsors will be attending the games. We want to be sure they receive the recognition of their generous donation and Wareham Gatemen support. There will be “runners” that will collect the money and purchased tickets from you during the sale. Ticket sales start in the 2nd inning and close at the bottom of the 7th. It is asked that you return immediately to the press booth so that numbers can be read during the middle of the 8th and fans can collect their prizes.

Post-game: All Interns will assist with removing and proper storage of sponsored banners, stocking and closing school bathrooms, merchandise concessions breakdown, camera breakdown according to Warren Randolph, greeting table breakdown and several various post-game duties according to organization member’s needs. It will be required that all interns will assist with Autograph and Meals on the Field special nights until completion of the evening.

Meals on the Field: The Meals Committee is very busy on games days and will need assistance in various areas. Interns are required to: Assist with various duties according to the Meals Committee; Assist with set up of tables and meal prep; Assist volunteers of homemade meals with proper storage and maintaining of meals until serving; Assist in serving food in the designated area according to the Meals Committee; Clean up must be completed before leaving for the evening.

Autograph Nights: You will find Autograph Nights to be a very busy evening. It is asked that you expect to stay for the duration of the game and during the Autograph Session. Interns will: Assist Security with crowd control; Help maintain an organized formed line for fans to participate; Encourage player and fan participation; Create a fun atmosphere for children and adults to participate and enjoy; Be ENERGICTIC for fans while they wait in line; Assist fans with various needs and questions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The intern must present themselves in a professional manner both in-person and through written communication with fans of all ages, sponsors, game day guests and on occasion, players.
  • Must have the ability to handle and coordinate large groups of people in a secure and sensitive area.
  • Attention to details, discretion and organization skills are a must.
  • Must have a flexible work schedule that will allow intern to work day, nights, weekends and holidays.

Work Environment:

  • Intern will have “game-day” responsibilities where the intern may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.

Schedule:

  • Part Time Internship; Approximately 10 weeks (22 home games); Nights and weekends

  • This is a seasonal opportunity and no compensation or benefits will be provided.
  • Housing is not provided but the Gatemen can assist in finding appropriate housing
