Gatemen to Play Four Preseason Games Against Futures League Teams

Gatemen to Play Four Preseason Games Against Futures League Teams

February 26, 2016

Press Release

The Wareham Gatemen today announced that the team will play four preseason exhibition games against Futures League opponents. The four teams will be the Brockton Rox, The Bristol Blues, The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks and the Worcester Bravehearts.  Gatemen President Tom Gay and General Manager Andrew Lang made the announcement.

“I am very excited to be able to play four games against the Futures League,” said Tom Gay. “These games will be four of seven we are scheduling before our season begins the second week of June.”

The Futures League is a collegiate summer wood bat league, which draws from the same pool of players that play for the Gatemen. “I am very excited that the Futures League was willing to play these games,” Lang added.  “These games will give our staff a chance to evaluate our players in live game situations as opposed to in inter-squad games.  We are having our players report at the beginning of June so that gives us a number of days to evaluate them before the season starts.”

All of the games scheduled with the Futures League will be away games for the Gatemen. “There is a reason why we wanted to play all away games,” Lang said.  “Three of the four teams we are playing against all play in minor league stadiums.  Worcester and Brockton play in modern state of the art facilities while Bristol plays in a beautiful old stadium and Martha’s Vineyard is a nice little trip for the players and the organization.”

All Gatemen fans are encouraged to make at least one of the four games to enjoy the stadium atmosphere or the Vineyard.

The dates and times for the four exhibition games are as follows:

Wednesday June 1 @ Brockton – 6:30 PM

Friday June 3 @ Martha’s Vineyard – 6:00 PM

Monday June 6 @ Bristol, CT – 6:30 PM

Wednesday June 8 @ Worcester – 6:30 PM

In addition to the four games against the Futures League, the Gatemen are scheduled to play three games against New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) opponents. More information about those games will follow in the coming weeks.
