07/15/08 – Gatemen Shutout Western Division Leading Mets
Max Perlman (Harvard) pitched 7 shutout innings against the league’s top team and Aaron Baker (Oklahoma) provided all of the offense as the Wareham Gatemen defated the Hyannis Mets 2-0. Perlman struck out 7, allowed only 3 hits and walked only two to pick up his third win of the season.
The Gatemen got their first hit of the game off of starter Andrew Carroway (Virginia) in the second inning when Aaron Baker hit his 3rd homerun of the season. The Mets threatened in the 5th with runners on first and third with one out but Perlman struck out Joey Gonazales (UC-Riverside) and got Trent Ashcraft (East Carolina) to fly out to end the inning.
Wareham would get their second run in the 6th on back-to-back doubles by Blake Dean (LSU) and Baker. Baker’s double would score Dean and give him his team tying 15th rbi on the season. He would finish 2 for 4 with 2 rbi and a stolen base on the night. Dean would also finish with 2 hits as the Gatemen managed only 4 hits off of Hyannis pitching. Carroway struck out 9 Gatemen over 5.2 innings; allowing only 2 hits and walking 2.
