The Wareham Gatemen dropped a heartbreaker Friday night, dropping their 2nd in a row with a 5-4 loss to the Brewster Whitecaps.
Wareham starter Brett Hanewich had a rocky outing today, lasting just three innings and letting up 5 earned runs on 7 hits with one strikeout. Hanewich took the loss. Ben Parr then gave Wareham three solid innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out two. Jared Price followed Parr, and was also effective over his two innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.
The Gatemen offense did better than in recent days, and it was once again led by Andrew Calica, who continued his unreal tear with a 3-4 night. Besides Calica, Charlie Warren had two hits, as did Gavin Stupienski. Stupienski started the Gatemen’s scoring in the sixth inning with a two run single, plating Calica and Warren. Stupienski scored the third run of the game on a single by John Sternagel. Mark Karaviotis scored on the hit as well. Unfortunately, the Gatemen had already dug themselves into a 5-0 hole before they scored a run, so those pair of RBI singles fell just short of enough tonight.
The Gatemen will try and get back on track Sunday night, when they invite the Bourne Braves in for a 6pm tilt. First, though, on Saturday, the Gatemen will host the Cape Cod Baseball League All Star at Spillane Field at 6pm.
