Gatemen Pitchers Combine for 3-Hit Shutout

BOX SCORE

COTUIT, MA:  The Gatemen scored two runs in the top of the first inning in what turned out to be the only runs of the ballgame as Wareham won their 3rd straigh in a 2-0 win at Cotuit.

Justin Amlung (Louisville) imporved his record to 2-1 and lowered his era to 1.96 as he went 5 innings, struck out 3, allowed only 1 hit and walked 2.  Joseph Flynn (Franklin Pierce) and Daniel Feehan (UCONN) combined to pitch 3 shutout innings and Konner Wade (Arizona) closed the game in the 9th to pick up his 4th save and moved to 2nd in the CCBL in that category.

The Gatemen got all the runs they would need with 1 out in the first inning.  With runners on 2nd and 3rd after a sacrafice by Robert Refsnyder (Arizona), Max Muncy (Baylor) delivered a single, driving in what turned out to the winning run of the game.  Muncy now has 10 RBI; good for 4th in the CCBL.

Cotuit starter Kyle Zimmer (San Francisco), after allowing 2 runs in the first inning, was just as impressive as the Gatemen pitching staff.  He went 7 inning, struck out 4, and allowed only 4 Gatemen hits.  He retired that last 14 batters he faced.

This fast moving game was finished in just 2 hour and 14 minutes thanks to the stellar pitching on both sides.  The win keeps the Gatemen in a 3-way tie for second place in the Western Division with Falmouth and Bourne; both winners tonight.  Wareham will head to McKeon Park on Saturday night to face first place Hyannis.  Bobby Brosnahan (Michigan) will be the Wareham starter.  The game will start at 7:00pm and can be heard live as the Gatemen Broadcast Team will bring you all of the action at www.gatemen.org

NOTE:  Gatemen catcher Robert Kral (College of Charleston) has been released from the roster after signing a professional contract with the San Diego Padres.  The Gatemen have also released catcher Jonathan Walsh (Texas) who will not be coming to the Cape this summer.
