FALMOUTH, MA: – In a game earily similar to the late inning loss yesterday, the Wareham Gatemen were ahead of the the Falmouth Commodores 4-0 after 7 innings but held on to win 5-4 in an exciting afternoon game in Falmouth.
In only his 2nd start of the season, Gatemen RHP Joseph Flynn (Franklin Pierce) gave the Gatemen exactly what they needed on a day where two games were scheduled – a solid, deep outing by their starting pitcher. Flynn delivered by shutting out the Falmouth Commodores in 7 innings of work, striking out 4 and allowing only 3 hits.
Flynn was supported by the top 2 run producers in the Cape Cod Baeball League. Max Muncy (Baylor), who leads the league in RBI, hit a sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning to open up the scoring for Wareham. Tyler Bream (Liberty), 2nd in the CCBL in RBI, would follow with a 2 run single to put Wareham ahead 3-0.
Bream would come through again in the 5th and 9th innings, driving in 2 additional runs; giving him 4 on the day and staking the Gatemen to a 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the 9th.
Falmouth made the game very interesting in the 8th inning, scoring 3 runs off of the Gatemen bullpen; highlighted by a Barrett Barnes (Texas Tech) 2 run single. Falmouth would add another run in the 9th on a fielder’s choice by closer Ken Ferrer (Elon) would close the door on the game with a strike out to end the game, stranding the tying and winning runs on base.
Tyler Bream finished the game 3 for 5 with 4 rbi and LJ Mazzilli (UCONN) and Josh Ludy (Baylor) would also contribute with multi-hit games for the Wareham offense. The Gatemen improve to 17-20-1 on the season and maintain 3rd place in the Western Division.
