06/22/08 – Gatemen Get Swept over Weekend – Brewster Blanks Wareham 8-0
The Brewster Whitecaps defeated the Wareham Gatemen 8-0 this afternoon at Spillane Field. Tim Clubb (Missouri State), starting pitcher for the Whitecaps, shut down the struggling Wareham offense and the Gatemen drop to 2-5 on the season. Gatemen starting pitcher Max Perlman (Harvard) provided Wareham with another strong starting pitching effort; giving up only 3 earned runs.
For the second consecutive game, the Gatemen gave up a first inning homerun; this time to Whitecap’s first baseman Ryan Wheeler (Loyola Marymount). The homer came after a Wareham double-play and then a dropped pop-up by the Gatemen catcher. Brewster never looked back, led offensively by Ty Kelly (UC-Davis) who went 3-5 with 2 rbi. Wheeler added another hit and an rbi and overall, the Whitecaps collected 12 hits on the night.
Ryan Pineda (Cal State-Northridge) hit a double for Wareham to highlight an otherwise dreadful night for Wareham at the plate where they managed only 6 hits and struggled once again with runner in scoring position.
The Gatemen will try to bounce back tonight when they face the Falmouth Commodores for the second time this season at Arnie Allen Diamond in Falmouth Center. Wareham will face Commodore starter Nich Tepesch (Missouri) and the Gatemen will send starting pitcher Robby Broach (Tulane) to the hill in Falmouth.
