The Gatemen dropped two yesterday in a double header against Orleans. In game one, Zach Plesac, the southpaw out of Ball State, took the mound for the Gatemen. For Orleans it was Southeastern Louisiana’s Kyle Cedotal.
The Firebirds got on the board first in the first inning when Austin Miller was hit by a pitch and came all the way around to score courtesy of an RBI single from Bobby Dalbec. Dalbec struck again in the fourth when he hit a home run off Plesac to put Orleans up 3-0. Dalbec’s home run was one of three that Plesac gave up. Sean Murphy and Kyle Mercer both also had solo home run shots.
The Gatemen brought in left handed pitcher Evan Hill in relief for Plesac. The rising senior of the University of Michigan got the Gatemen out of the inning after inducing two ground outs. The Gatemen plated two runs in the 6th to make it a 6-2 ball game, but they left the bases loaded. Ben Parr came in and held Orleans at 6 but the Gatemen could not get it done in the 7th. Wareham dropped to a 3-3 record after the 6-2 loss to Orleans.
In game two Wareham turned to Team USA bound Anthony Kay while Orleans looked to Mitchell Jordan. Kay was very dominate, but Bobby Dalbec hit yet another home run over the left field wall. After the home run Kay came back with two consecutive strike outs to end the inning. Neither team could brew up any more offense and the Gatemen fell to Orleans 1-0 in game two of the double header. Tomorrow Wareham takes on Falmouth on the road.
