The Gatemen defeated the defending CCBL champion YD Red Sox last night at Red Wilson Field. Entering yesterday YD had a 3-7 record while the Gatemen were at 4-6.
Both teams have had offensive struggles this summer but yesterday it was the Gatemen bats that got going first. In the top of the second, Logan Sowers ripped a single to right field, and was brought around to score off an RBI single by Preston Grand Pre. Grand Pre’s single was one of three he had on the evening.
The Gatemen turned to a new arm last night in Blake Fox out of Rice. The southpaw pitched 5 innings, had three strikeouts and allowed just one run. For the Red Sox, left hander Jacob DeVries was on the bump.
In the third inning Charlie Warren came around to score after reaching on a walk. Warren has reached base in each game he had played in this season. The Gatemen capitalized on another walk this time by Mark Karaviotis. Heading into the fifth the Gatemen led YD 4-1.
In the seventh inning, Jay Jabs lined a home run over the right field wall to make it a 5-1 ball game. The Red Sox responded laster in the seventh capitalizing on a Gatemen throwing error.
The win improved the Gatemen to 5-6 on the season, and they look to face the Brewster White Caps tonight in a double header.
