BREWSTER, MA: Starting pitcher Bobby Brosnahan (Michigan) no-hit the Brewster Whitecaps (17-12-4) through 6 innings and the Gatemen (17-16) bullpen allowed only 1 run in the final 3 innings in suppot of a 2-0 win for Wareham at Stony Brook Field.
The Gatemen scored a run in the 5th on a Ty Ross (LSU) double that brought home LJ Mazilli (UConn) and a run in the 9th when Jeff Reynolds (Harvard) brought home Max Muncy (Baylor) with a sacrifice fly.
That was more than enough run support for the Gatemen pitching staff. Starter Bobby Brosnahan (Michigan) dazzled through the game’s first 6 innings allowing no hits, while walking just three. Brosnahan struck out three batters and the Gatemen defense behind him played errorless ball and turned two double plays.
Stephen Perakslis (Maine) followed, and worked around a leadoff walk to pitch a scoreless hitless 7thinning.
Brewster would get its only single of the evening when Tanner Nivins (Stony Brook) flared an 0-2 breaking ball from Dave Fischer (UConn) to center field. Nivins was stranded at second though when Fischer struck out Andrew Toles.
Dan Feehan (UConn) took over in the 9th for Wareham and made quick work of the Brewster hitters to record the save. He induced three consecutive ground ball to the short stop Mott Hyde (Georgia Tech) to end the game.
The Gatemen are back in action tomorrow at Spillane Field against Chatham at 7 PM.
