Five Gatemen Named to CCBL All-Star Team

RHP Max Perlman (Harvard), LHP Jed Bradley (Georgia Tech), C/1B Tony Caldwell (Auburn), 3B Tyler Bream (Liberty) and 3B/OF Zach Wilson (Arizona State) were all named to the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Western Divison All-Star team that will play vs. the Eastern Division next Wedenesday night at historic Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts.

The annual CCBL All-Star game will by played on July 28th at 7:00pm and will be preceeded by the homerun derby that will feature Wareham’s Jake Davies (Georgia Tech).  The All-Star game is the highlight event for the Cape Cod Baseball League each summer and for the 2nd consecutive year, the Boston Red Sox have opened up Fenway Park to the league and their fans.  Last year’s game was rain shortened but the first three pitcher’s into the game for the West squad were all Wareham Gatemen; including starting pitcher Brandon Workman (Texas) followed by current Gatemen pitchers Eric Pfisterer (Duke) and Jack Armstrong (Vanderbilt).  Gatemen SS Derek Dietrich (Georgia Tech) was also named to the same team.

This year’s Western Division team features 5 new Gatemen All-Stars.  It is no surprise that the terrific Wareham starting rotation is represented on the All-Star squad.  Coming off a major elbow injury and having to take off an entire season, RHP Max Perlman can officially say he’s back in top form.  A 2008 CCBL All-Star alternate, Perlman has had a terrific season on the Cape this season.  Already named a Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week, Perlman’s All-Star honor is bolstered by his 1.56 era, 2-1 record and allowing only 6 earned runs in 34.2 innings.

Jed Bradley (Georgia Tech) has been equally impressive and has impressed during his first season on the CCBL.  Bradley leads the league in strikeouts with 44, has a very low 1.98 era and turned in what may be the most impressive pitching performances of the season against Hyannis on June 25th with an 11 strikeout, complete game performance.

Coming from a talent laden Arizona State team, Zach Wilson has bolstered the Gatemen offense since arriving from the College World Series.  A 2nd year CCBL player, Wilson will start for the West team in the outfield.  Zach is hitting .308 in his 16 games since arriving from Omaha.  Also starting for the West team is Wareham third baseman Tyler Bream (Liberty).  Bream has been Wareham’s best offensive player, leading the CCBL with 19 rbi, hitting .265 to go along with 2 homers and 6 doubles.  Tyler is the son of former Atanta Brave’s player Sid Bream.

Rounding out the Gatemen All-Star representatives is perhaps their most versatile player; Tony Caldwell (Auburn).  Caldwell is primarily a catcher but also plays first base and has been a leadoff hitter for Wareham during the season.  A late signee by the Gatemen, Caldwell is hitting .286 with a homer and 6 rbi.
