WAREHAM, MA: Gatemen started Luke Farrell (Northwestern) only last an inning and two thirds as Wareham (12-14) fell to Falmouth (12-13) 6-1 Monday atSpillane Field.
The Commodores jumped ahead straight from the get go. Billy Ferriter (UConn), the game’s second hitter, reached on a single, then scored on a double to deep left center by Jack Marder (Oregon). Marder moved to third on a wild pitch and then came home on Jeremy Baltz’s (St. John’s) sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0.
Falmouth was back at it again in the second. Kyle Von Tungeln (TCU) roped a two out double down the left field line to make the score 4-0. After a walk to Ferriter, Farrell was replaced by Stephen Perakslis (Maine). Perakslis was the hero of the day for the Gatemen, tossing 4 innings of shutout ball out of the pen to keep Wareham within four.
Meanwhile, Falmouth’s spot starter Tyler Duffey (Rice), made things difficult for the Gatemen. Wareham scored just once in 6 innings against the starter, when CT Bradford (Mississippi State) brought Johnny Field (Arizona) home with a single to right.
Baltz would burn the Gatemen twice more, driving in a run with a single in the 7th, and a double in the 9th, to make the score 6-1. That was more than enough for the Commadore pitching staff. The Gatemen’s only substantial late inning threat came in the 8th, when Wareham left the bases loaded.
After an off day on Tuesday, the Gatemen are back in action Wednesday in Cotuit, with the first pitch at 5 PM.
