07/04/08 – Eibner “Fireworks” Lead Gatemen over Braves on 4th of July
OF Brett Eibner (Arkansas) drove in all of the Gatemen runs; including a 2-run homer to tie the game, to lead Wareham to a 4-3 July 4th victory over division rival Bourne at Doran Park. The annual 4th of July game, played in front of 1,549 in Bourne, was a rare 2:00pm start and proved to be a comeback victory for Wareham.
Bourne took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on rbi singles by Dusty Coleman (Wichita State) and Marc Kraus (Ohio). Braves starting pitcher Nick McCully (Coastal Carolina) held the Gatemen hitless until the 3rd inning when Brett Eibner hit a 2 run homer to tie the game 2-2. Wareham starting pitcher Max Perlman (Harvard) settled in nicely going 7 innings, allowing only the 2 first inning runs, striking out 2 and allowing only 5 hits.
The Gatemen comeback culminated in the 7th inning. Kipp Shutz (Indiana) was hit be a pitch to start the inning and a Raynor Cambell (Baylor) single put 2 on base for the Gatemen. Eibner then delivered again with a 2 run single to give Wareham a 4-2 lead.
A wild 9th inning resulted in a Braves run on an Eibner throwing error but Chris Hicks (Georgia Tech) was able to strike out Dusty Coleman with the final out and pick up his first save of the season. Max Perlman picked up his second victory for the Gatemen.
