07/02/08 – Cesario Single in 9th Propels Falmouth over Wareham
For the second consecutive night, the opponent’s leadoff hitter proved too much to handle as AJ Pollock (Notre Dame) went 5 for 5; including a double in the 9th and a run scored when Jimmy Cesario (Houston) blooped a single into left field to plate what proved to be the winning run for the Commodores.
Dallas Keuchel (Arkansas) turned in another excellent start by going 8 innings and allowing only 2 earned runs while hurling 113 pitches. The Commodores scored one run in the 2nd and another in the 4th to take a 2-0 lead before the Gatemen tied the score in the bottom half of 4th. A lead-off Raynor Cambell (Baylor) double led to a run when Brett Eibner (Arkansas) grounded out to score Campbell. A batter later, Aaron Baker (Oklahoma) singled up the middle to score Ryan Pineda (Cal-State Northridge) and the game was tied 2-2 until the 9th inning when the Cesario single gave the Commodores the win.
Josh Slaats (Hawaii) took the loss in the relief effort as he gave up the lead-off double to Pollock before Chris Hicks (Georgia Tech) came into the game. The Gatemen did not manage a base runner in the bottom half of the 9th; giving the win to Ben Tootle (Jacksonville State).
In his first appearance for Wareham this season after the College World Series, Blake Dean from LSU went 0 for 3. Overall, Wareham managed only 4 hits in a game played before 1204 at Spillane Field.
Wareham will hit the road for two consecutive games, playing in Orleans tonight at 7:00pm and then taking on the Bourne Braves at 2:00 for the annual July 4th game played at Doran Park.
