WAREHAM, MA: The Wareham Gatemen will be represented by 5 players at the 52nd Annual Friendly’s All-Star Game on Sunday, July 27th. Kyle Cody (Kentucky) will be the starting pitcher for the CCBL West Squad and his battery-mate will be Christopher Chinea (LSU) who was selected as the starting catcher. Kramer Roberston (LSU) will be the starting second baseman and Scott Effross (Indiana) and Keaton Aldridge (Memphis) will round out the Gatemen on the All-Star roster.
The 52nd Annual Friendly’s Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game will be hosted by the Bourne Braves at Doran Park in Bourne on Sunday, July 27th at 6:oopm. The gates will open at 2:oopm for a number of pregame festivities including batting practice, autograph sessions with both teams and the annual Home Run Hitting Contest. Kyle Cody heads to Bourne as one the best top of the rotation starters in the league. After a short stint in Wareham last season, Cody was named the 2nd best sophomore in the Southeaster Conference, the 7th best sophomore in the nation and he did not disapoint as he made 24 appearance, finished with a 4-0 record and a 2.84 era. Despite only 2 appearance on the Cape last summer, Cody was still named the 30th best prospect in the Cape Cod League by Perfect Game. This season, he is 2-2 with 30 strikeouts in 32.1 innings with a 2.50 era. The last Gatemen pitcher to start the All-Star game was current Boston Red Sox pitcher Brandon Workman (Texas) in 2009.
Christopher Chinea is arguably playing as the top catcher in the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer. He is hitting a team leading .329 and and has compiled 17 rbi in the 26 games he has played. Chinea started 25 games for his LSU Tigers this past year and has been named an All-Star after his second year on Cape Cod.
Chinea’s LSU teammate Kramer Robertson (LSU) was named as an All-Star replacement and will start at second base for the West Squad on Sunday. Kramer is one of a remarkable 5 LSU players that were selected as All-Stars- 4 of which will start for the West. Robertson, a former Division 5A quarterback in Texas, started 30 games for the Tigers during his freshman year and hit .200 with 20 rbi. For Wareham, Kramer is hitting .286 with a homer and 7 rbi.
Scott Effross (Indiana) continues a long line of recent Hoosiers to excel in Wareham. Following in the footsteps of players such as Josh Phegley, Dustin DeMuth, Alex Dickerson and Kyle Schwarber, Effross has been named to the West Squad for his work on the mound in Wareham. Scott has made a team high 12 starts and leads the Gatemen with 3 saves. He also led the NCAA Playoff contending Hoosiers with 5 saves this season and made a whopping 32 appearances this past season.
All-around player Keaton Aldridge (Memphis) rounds out the Wareham contingent on the West Squad. Alridge is hitting .321 with 9 rbi and 1 homerun and has also make 4 pitching appearances for the Gatemen and has not allowed an earned run in 4 total innings. Aldridge, who can also strap on the gear behind the plate, played 22 game last season on the Cape for the Brewster Whitecaps. Keaton was drafted in the 40th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
