Wareham staring pitcher Dallas Keuchel (Arkansas) pitched 6 shutout innings and left the game with a 3-0 lead. However, a DeAngelo Mack’s (South Carolina) bases clearing triple off of Gatemen reliever Chris Hicks (Georgia Tech) in the 8th inning pushed the YD Red Sox ahead 5-3 and the visitors went on to defeat the Gatemen 10-3 tonight at Spillane Field.
The Gatemen got off to a good start in the second inning when Cole Leonida (Georgia Tech) singled home Raynor Cambell (Baylor) to put Wareham ahead 1-0. Wareham scored another run in the 3rd inning. Buddy Munroe (Florida), after doubling, scored on a Connor Rowe (Texas) groundout to shortstop; giving the Gatemen a 2-0 lead. Wareham’s final run came off the bat of Tom Stach-Babich (Harvard) who doubled off the center field fence scoring Raynor Cambell. Overall, the Gatemen offense produced 9 hits with Shea Vucinich (Washington State) and Raynor Cambell (Baylor) leading the way with 2 hits apiece.
Evan Bronson (Trinity) picked up the win for the Red Sox going 8 innings and striking out 5 in front of 1,045 fans at Spillane Field. Offensively, YD was led by Josh Rutledge (Alabama) who went 3 for 5 with an rbi and a double and Nick Liles (Western Carolina) who went 2 for 4 and had 3 rbi.
Wareham travels to Hyannis on Saturday for 7:00 game vs. the Mets. A pregame ceremony will preceed the game to dedicate the new lights at McKeon Park. Hyannis defeated Orleans 8-1 last night and is 4-2 on the season; tied for first place in the Western Division. Wareham is 2-3 and tied with Bourne for 4th place. Matt Way (Washington State) will make his second start of the season for the Gatemen.
