07/05/08 – Brandon Workman Two-Hitter Carries Wareham to 4-0 Victory over Cotuit
Right-handed pitcher Brandon Workman from the University of Texas took a no-hitter into the 9th inning and with one out, surrendered his first hit of the ballgame. He allowed only one more hit and struck out 13 batters to lead the Wareham Gatemen to a 4-0 win over the Cotuit Kettleers at Spillane Field. In one of the most impressive outings by a Gatemen starting pitcher in years, Workman was masterful; reminding Gatemen fans of the 4 hit, 14 strikeout, complete game performance by Texas teammate Riley Boeing against Cotuit in the 2006 Western Division Playoffs.

Workman would get all of the runs that he would need from the offense in the first inning off of 3 infield singles and an error as Blake Dean (LSU) singled home the first run of the game and Brett Eibner (Arkansas) scored on a throwing error by the pitcher. The second two runs for Wareham came in the second inning on a Ryan Pineda (Cal-State Northridge) 2 run single the scored Buddy Munroe (Florida) and Shea Vucinich (Washington State); each who singled to lead off the inning.

Paul Applebee (UC-Riverside) pitched all 8 innings for the Kettleers, surrendering only 3 earned runs, striking out 6 and walking one batter. Wareham got multiple hit games from Munroe, Eibner and Pineda.
