Bourne Dominates Wareham on July 4th 9-1

BOURNE, Mass.  The Bourne Braves got 3 runs in the first and 2 runs in the second inning and never looked back; as they cruised to a 4th of July victory over the Wareham Gatemen in front of 1,501 at Doran Park 9-1.  As impressive as the Braves were offensively, their pitcher combined to allow only 1 run on 7 hits, walking only 3 and striking out 15 Gatemen hitters.  Robert Morey (Virginia) picked up the win for the Braves by pitching 5 innings and striking out 7.

The Braves jumped out to an early lead on back to back doubles in the first inning by Ben Klafczynski (Kent State) & Stefen Romero (Oregon State); Romero’s drove in the first run of the game.  Robert Segeden (Tulane) and Nick Schwaner (New Orleans) would add rbi hits of their own to give Bourne what proved to be more than enough runs and a 3-0 lead after the first inning.

Wareham starting pitcher Bruce Kern (St. John’s) would last only 2 batter into the 2nd inning and was replaced by Bourne, MA native Keith Bilodeau (Maine).  The Braves would then add 2 more runs on an rbi groundout by Klafcynski and a sacrifice fly by Segeden.  Overall, Klafcynski, Segenden, Schwamener, Romero and Kyle Roller (East Carolina) would combine to go 11 for 15 with 8 rbi.

The only chance for the Gatemen to close in on the Braves was in the sixth inning after a Shea Vucinich (Washington State) and Derek Dietrich (Georgia Tech) single gave the Gatemen a chance with 2 on and nobody out.   Ryan LaMarre (Michigan) capatilized with an rbi double to give the Gatemen their first run.  However, Wareham would squander further opportunities and leave 2 on base to end the inning. Overall, Wareham left 7 runners on base and could not put together an offensive charge against any of the four Bourne pitchers on the afternoon.

With the loss, Wareham drops to 7-7-1 on the season and remains in 3rd place in the CCBL Western Division.  Bourne, meanwhile, stays in first place with a record of 9-5-2.  The two teams will meet again today at Spillane Field beginning at 5:00pm.  Blake Monar (Indiana) will get the start for Wareham and face Eric Cantrell (George Washington) who is 2-0 and has one of the league’s best era’s at 1.13.
