20 Gatemen Taken in 2008 MLB First Year Player Draft

The Cape Cod Baseball League and the Wareham Gatemen were once again represented prominently in the MLB draft as 20 former and current Gatemen players were selected in the 2008 MLB First Year Player Draft.  Three Gatemen were selected in the first round; Ike Davis from Arizona State, Wade Miley from SE Louisiana and Jeremy Bleich from Stanford highlighted the first day of the draft for Wareham.

 

An astounding 47 percent of the first round selctions and 67 percent of the American players selected in the draft played in the Cape Cod Baseball League; including 4 of the top 10 picks (Buster Posey – YD, Gordon Beckham – YD, Aaron Crow – Falmouth and Jason Castro – YD)  Ike Davis from Wareham was chosen 17th by the New York Mets.
