10/20/09 - New Playoff Format and Scheduling Changes Announced
By SCOTT EATON
CARY, NC: The Cape Cod Baseball League will make two significant changes that will affect the regular season schedule and the post-season playoff format. Like 2009, the league will expand the number of teams that will qualify for post-season play. Additionally, double-headers will be featured as part of the 2010 regular season schedule.
The championship series will return to the traditional West vs. East match-up in a best of 3 final for the CCBL Championship. However, the biggest change is that the top 4 teams in each division will qualify for post season play. As a result, there will be two first round playoff series in each division with the winners moving onto a division championship playoff match-up. The winners of the division championship series will move on to the West vs. East CCBL Championship. All playoff match-ups in each round will be scheduled as best-of-three series.
To allow for an exanded playoff format, teams will play at least one scheduled double-header at home and one on the road. The schedule will be released shortly but the season will kick-off on Sunday, June 13th, 2010. The Gatemen will play that day vs. an opponent to be announced in the only scheduled game of the day; holding with the tradition of the league having one special opening game to kick-off the new season.
