08/01/08 - Brent Milleville Walk-Off Homer in 9th Lifts Whitecaps Over Gatemen

Brent Milleville (Stanford) came to the plate first in a 7-7 game in the bottom of the 9th and was the last batter in the bottom of the 9th as he hit a sole homer to give the Brewster Whitecaps a dramatic 8-7 win over the Wareham Gatemen.  Wareham had just scored 3 runs in the top of 8th inning to take a 7-6 lead; hightlighted by Cole Leonida (Georgia Tech) and Shea Vucinich (Washington State) rbi doubles and a Jake Lemmerman (Duke) rbi single.

The Whitecaps would tie the back and forth game in the bottom of the 8th on a Mike Freeman (Clemson) fielder's choice grounder that resulted in an rbi.  Brewster then tacked on the final run in the 8th on the Milleville homerun.

Wareham took an early 3-0 lead in the game.  In the first inning, the Gatemen loaded the bases on 2 walks and a hit batter.  Aaron Baker (Oklahoma) also walked, picking up an rbi and giving the Gatemen a 1-0 lead.  Connor Rowe (Texas) picked up an rbi on a fielder's choice and provide Wareham with a 2-0 lead.  A Blake Dean (LSU) sacrafice fly in the 2nd inning put the Gatemen ahead 3-0.

Brewster answered right away in 2nd inning by scoring 5 runs off of starting pitcher Robby Broach (Tulane).  Broach would only go 3.1 innings, strike out 3, allow 6 hits and 3 earned runs.  The Gatemen defense committed 2 errors in the 2nd inning; which propelled the Whitecaps big inning.

Dean and Lemmerman had multiple hit games for Wareham and Baker would be credited with 2 rbi.  Matt Way (Washington State) was given the loss after giving up the homer in the 9th.
